Wrongful Death Lawsuit Filed Involving Tesla’s Autopilot

As reported by Hyunjoo Jin in his article posted on Reuters.com, another motor vehicle injury lawsuit has been filed against Tesla concerning its semi-autonomous driving system, Autopilot.  The family of a motorcyclist killed in an Autopilot crash has sued Tesla, along with the individual who was operating the Tesla Model 3 at the time of the crash.

The motorcyclist was killed when he was rear-ended at a high speed by a Model 3 that had been placed on Autopilot.  Plaintiffs in the lawsuit claim the Tesla software and specifically, the Autopilot feature, was defective thus causing crash.  More and more injury claims and product defect lawsuits continue to be filed across the country involving manufacturers’ self-driving technology and crash avoidance systems.  Hyunjoo Jin, Tesla sued by family of motorcyclist killed in Autopilot crash, Reuters.com, August 1, 2024.
